Reasons to be cheerless...

In this case the brute stupidity of those who rule and the endless patience with which people endure.

A skilled migrant, settled for 10 years who is gainfully self-employed has had his visa refused and been told to leave Britain on the eve of his first child being born after having already served a punitive and nakedly political prison term for a non-violent protest. The British state is true evil. This is mafia-logic at work.

But, then, this is the state that spies on grieving relatives campaigning for justice looking for ‘dirt’. Elected politicians through the years knew nothing of this. Of course they wouldn’t, they’re not culpable, merely incompetent, but do not go thinking that the entire system needs to be radically overhauled, DON’T DO THAT. If you do want to see any kind of substantial change in your society beware, you might have undercover officers help write your leaflets and not come forward when you are taken to court, perhaps they'll even sleep with you under false pretenses then one fine day fuck off and leave you with the baby you made together.

None of this has anything to do with a recently deceased former prime minister using the police force as a praetorian guard, given the promise of everlasting impunity. Don’t think that. No. Better still just don’t think.
